I know a player who decided he would have LASIK done in order to improve his play. He thought getting his eyes corrected would make him a better player. He was extremely disappointed when I told him it didn't help my chess, but was tremendous for my athletic performance.
Being of that age where the near vison goes to hell, I do wear reading glasses. However it was a good trade off for not having to fuss with prescription goggles when doing open water swims, or inserts under sport sunglasses when cycling.
